Born in South Africa, Brian received his degree from the London School of Engineering and moved to Singapore to work for Far East Levingston. He continued to work with FELS during the oil boom years, building jack up and semi-submersible offshore drilling and production equipment. When the opportunity presented itself he started the Promet shipyard in Singapore and developed a strategic partnership with Baker Marine... building 24 jack up oil rigs (more than any individual in Asia). At the same time, and over the course of the next 25 years, Brian completed over 600 other marine oriented projects... from offshore tugs to oil supply vessels. Additional businesses include pipeline, oil and natural gas projects, marinas, a resort and vineyard in New Zealand etc. Brian is a shareholder and director of several "Build Operate and Own" infrastructure projects including pipelines and terminals... and also the HUB powerplant in Pakistan... one of the largest electrical power plants in existence. Brian entered China in 1991 with a vision of building the best shipyard in the world. In 1994 he found the perfect location in the city of Yantai. This area of China has a two thousand four hundred year history of fine shipbuilding... and today with its population 6.5 million people, he has a vast supply of highly skilled shipyard employees, engineers and technicians. In 1980 Brian designed and built the largest carbon fiber yacht of its kind in Japan. After 20 years of aggressive use the 158 foot "Asean Lady" still retains it's classic beauty and has yet to have a down day because of equipment failure. Remarkably, the captain and a majority of the crew still remain with Brian. In addition to 20 years of extensive travel in the Asean Lady, Brian is an very accomplished scuba diver and fisherman. His wife Annie and their three children all participate in various family businesses. |
